White Plains Law Firm Settles US Army Whistleblowers’ Claims for $400,000
McCullough, Goldberger & Staudt, LLP negotiates settlement on behalf of two civilian employees who were punished for reporting mismanagement, waste and fraud
White Plains NY – November, 2024- White Plains Law Firm McCullough, Goldberger & Staudt LLP (MGS) successfully negotiated a $400,000 award from the US Department of the Army on behalf of two whistleblowers who reported mismanagement, waste, and fraud in their department.
MGS Partner Patricia Wetmore Gurahian, who led the prosecution of the claim, said she was able to gather evidence showing that her two civilian clients were subject to a hostile work environment over a period of several years after reporting mismanagement to the Army’s Auditing Agency.
“My clients paid a high price for standing up to allegedly unethical and potentially criminal behavior,’’ said Gurahian. “They suffered a downgrading of their employment responsibilities, deprivation of opportunities for advancement, as well as loss of professional reputation based on alleged statements and actions of their superiors.’’
Gurahian said her clients were shunned and isolated from their co-workers after they reportedly uncovered over $6 million dollars in mismanaged, redundant and duplicative efforts. The official audit report later found $980 million in waste, which would not have been uncovered without their disclosures.
The settlement was made subject to the Army’s denial of all allegations of wrongdoing or violation of federal statutes with no admission of liability.
Gurahian, Chair of MGS’ Litigation Department, handles all types of civil litigation.
